For Sale: One Square Wheel (Cheap!)

.
On second thought, I wouldn't wish it on anyone.

The last two weeks I have made a lot of progress with my injury rehab. I have increased mileage, and finally found myself in the position where it was my fitness holding me back more than my hamstring. To help me get through that, I asked Derrick to make me a training plan for the next few weeks. Not only do I trust him because he totally knows what he's talking about, but it's also a mental relief from obsessing about it. It was honestly a bit hard for me to give up control over my training, but now I'm loving it and have been following his plan to the minute.

One of the most surprising things was that once my hamstring really started to heal, it felt really strange and awkward to run as my left leg adjusted to being able to function again. For so long it felt like it was dragging behind me, like I had "one square wheel" as they say. Not good, but that eventually became my "normal". No wonder my hips were so messed up. Now that I'm getting more accustomed to using both legs equally again, I'm feeling much smoother.

I hope that someday soon I'll have something interesting to talk about instead of my hammie! I'm looking forward to getting back to some rolling single-track soon. Hopefully in a few weeks!

Love this classic:

Love that...

No thanks not in the market for a square wheel, trying hard to keep mine rounded.

Have a great easter and enjoy an ear or two.

Was worried that you were referring to Derrick, but then realized you meant the leg.

Hope the training continues to go well.

Yup, I'm going to Wakely - really pumped for it. Just read yours and Derrick's race reports. Looking forward to making an 8ft trail map.

No need...I'll mail you mine. :)

Sara I've been secretly in denial about my hamstring and piriformis issues that I've had for a few months. I've been running through it somehow but it's been like dragging my left leg beind. Nothing seemed to be working to fix it so I went for accupunture on Sat. and I feel like I have a new leg now. Glad to hear that your hammie is also feeling better. I'm starting to think that maybe I could benefit from one of Derricks training plans...

David, At some point I must have recycled my 8ft map. :(

Sue, Glad the acupuncture worked for you. I ran through mine for years. Best to get on it now and not let it become a bigger problem.

Ah, too bad about the Map, guess I have to build my own.

Sue: re the hamstring and piriformis issues, my right side has been flaring up lately and for me is it a hip alignment issue. If I get to the chiro and it is almost instant relief, problem is road running seems to take it's toll and it goes out faster than on trails. Still if you keep at it, the muscle will eventually relax and stop pulling it out. Just a thought.

Now where did I put that scotch tape?
