Day by day

On Dec 3 I wrote on my blog that I was just over a nasty cold, but since I usually get one in December, it was at least nice to have it out of the way.

I also wrote that I plan to race sometime in January, before my 30's were over.

On Dec 23 I wrote that I was going to run a million miles over the holidays.

On Dec 24 I got a wicked cold, then bronchitis, injured my rib muscles (or something) from coughing, and practically poisoned myself from too many cough remedies. I ran maybe two miles over the holidays, am still recovering from the ribs, won't be racing in January, and never want to see Buckley's again.

I know, things could be a lot worse. I'm just thinking that maybe it's a bad idea to write what I'm "going to do".

Siku showing off her snose. You can tell just by looking that she is a much smarter person than I am.

Hey Sara feel better. I totally learned that lesson. Buckleys, to much of a good thing? Yuck.

Oh yeah. I'd like to see added to their packaging:

If by your own stupidity, you take significantly more than the recommended dosage, you may experience any or all of the following: stomach ache just to the point of not be able to vomit and get it over with; shaky and weak extremities; blurred vision through half-closed lids (aka zombie); lung capacity reduced by 93%; ability to speak only in short, strained whispers; regret at not just taking Nyquil instead.

I have never been able to get that stuff down. It is like drinking
liquid mentholatum.

One thing I have learned is to never say beforehand how a race is going to go because it never works out the way you planned.

Love Siku's snose. She looks froze from her snoes to her tows.

True enough, EJ. Will I see you this wknd? Hope so.

nooooo! don't let the Buckleys and the boogers overshadow your goals and ambitions! You know too well that as runners we get setbacks, but it always gets better given a bit of time and the careful application of comfort food and drink, and dialing back the pace a bit. You're just kind of bonking at the moment, but you have to keep the ultimate goals in mind - soon you'll feel better and wonder what you were feeling all whiny about!
So you race in February instead of January? pish posh. This downtime will make you well-rested to be able to run even better then. And hey, it's snowing out there now, right? Sounds like there's some good snowshoeing with Derek and your pups to look forward to...

We always need goals - sometimes we don't reach them when we want but they always give us something to be motivated to achieve. But I know you know that :-)

p.s. I like Buckley's like candy, but admit to never having had to swallow industrial quantities like it sounds you did ;-)

I am glad to hear that you and D. are feeling better. Can you imagine trying to run this race with both of you still sick.

Maryanne and I will be there and we have room if anyone wants to save on the Park Pass fee and come with us.

See you,
Eliza

Bruce - No worries, goals will remain, I just can't type them on my haunted blog. Thanks for the pep talk. I like pish posh, might steal that.

See you there, Eliza. And no I can't imagine...we're feeling better just in time that is true.

Strider says hi to Siku and is wondering when they can get together and play.

Sucks about the flu's but good to hear it is behind you (I hope). Have you heard about the lovely little race in our neighbourhood on March 5th. Might be a good excuse for some Hot Tub time.

Hope all goes well with the SS race this weekend. Sure sounds like you FINALLY got the snow.

Hi David - Siku and Strider would have a total riot together. Thanks, and yes, finally snow.

Wow Sara I did not know that I just sort of take a gulp when I think I need it.I will not be doing that again thanks for the warning.

Sara Montgomery said...

Buttons, you're totally fine with normal amounts, I just took way too much because it hurt to cough so I was a bit desperate.

Yup, one last kick in the ribs from 2010 for sure. All will be good soon.

Just like any other kind, the Buckley shooters seemed like a good idea at the time ;)

Sara Montgomery said...

Kick in the ribs indeed.

Ha ha re shooters. Maybe tequila would work better.

Derrick said...

tequila?....um, no thanks!
